Diabetes & the Flu

Free flu jab reminder

People with diabetes are reminded to protect themselves against the flu by taking up the offer of a free flu jab this autumn.

Booking a flu jab is the best way to protect yourself against the flu. It reduces your risk of needing to go to hospital and is available to people in ‘at risk’ groups for free from your local pharmacy.

Flu is a highly infectious disease and can lead to serious complications if you have an underlying health condition such as diabetes, heart disease, multiple sclerosis and lung conditions including Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), bronchitis and emphysema.

People with underlying health conditions which put them at risk of suffering complications from the flu are currently being given priority due to a surge in demand.
